Job Description : 

The Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Psychiatry & Behavioral Health Institute is seeking a full-time, board-certified adult psychiatrist to ensure the Allegheny County Jail’s behavioral health services run efficiently and effectively, maintaining quality care within budget objectives. The incumbent candidate must balance the interests of safety and security, court and legal precedent, medical board requirements, standards of care, services fulfilled by public funding, and current research while providing administrative direction in behavioral health policy and procedure.

Highlights: 

  • Collaborate with healthcare and correctional administration to evolve behavioral health best practice
  • Drive the revision of behavioral health policy and procedure as a community partner and advocate for a population with complex care needs
  • Train and supervise psychiatry resident physicians on elective rotations

Duties:

  • Supervise psychiatric physicians and advanced practice providers at the Allegheny County Bureau of Corrections, ensuring practitioners provide care according to evidence-based and correctional medicine standards
  • Provide case and critical incident review, and coordinate pertinent process improvement efforts alongside clinical teams and healthcare and corrections administration
  • Lead the interdisciplinary behavioral health clinical team as they incorporate a holistic care model inclusive of medical, psychiatric, public, and community health professionals to serve a vulnerable population

Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of clinical experience in a health care environment AND one (1) year in a supervisory or administrative capacity; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
  • If not a Certified Correctional Health Professional by the National Commission of Correctional Medicine and/or member of the American College of Correctional Physicians or American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law at time of hire, must obtain certification within 6 months and maintain the certification for the duration of employment
  • Completion of ACGME-approved Psychiatry residency  
  • Board Eligible/Board Certified in Psychiatry  
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) 
  • Licensed in the state of Pennsylvania prior to employment
