At Highmark Health, we are deeply committed to caring about and supporting others, as well as being an active, compassionate member of our community.
We believe that, together, employees within the Highmark Health enterprise can achieve great things. As an organization, we create opportunities for our people to devote time to charitable causes that they feel passionate about. It’s a chance for people to work together in different ways, build relationships outside of the work environment, and to do something rewarding beyond the scope of their role within the Highmark Health organization.
The Employee Volunteer Program
Many people join Highmark Health, or one of its affiliated businesses, because of the active role we enable our employees to play in supporting the local community. Every year, our people commit thousands of hours to community programs. Our employees actively engage with people, interacting with those in need at a deeper, personal level, to make a more meaningful, positive impact on minds and hearts.
Employees who volunteer with local nonprofit organizations often know best about the needs of those institutions. The Highmark Health Employee Volunteer Grant Program is designed to reinforce the company’s appreciation for those employees who dedicate their time and talents to volunteer. Each quarter, active employee volunteers can submit applications for consideration for individual grants for the nonprofit organizations where they volunteer.
Jefferson Awards for Public Service
Since 2007, Highmark Health has had the opportunity to distinguish and honor outstanding employee volunteers throughout our affiliated companies through the Jefferson Awards for Public Service. Highmark Health is the only health care company in Pennsylvania with the honor of recognizing our employees in this way — making this award truly unique.
The Highmark Caring Place
The Highmark Caring Foundation, funded primarily by Highmark Inc., supports the Highmark Caring Place.
The Highmark Caring Place has four locations across Pennsylvania. It provides programs of support at no cost to families affected by the loss of a loved one, and has served more than 80,000 individuals since 1996.
The Walk for a Healthy Community is an annual event in five locations in Pennsylvania that raises funds for local nonprofit agencies. An online forum, ‘Fabulous,’ has also been established to help advance healthy lifestyle changes.
