SIMULATION TECHNICIAN:
The Simulation Technician is a technical specialist who provides crucial support and contributes to the enhancement of clinical skills and patient safety through the effective implementation of simulation-based healthcare training. Their primary role is to ensure the effective and efficient operation of simulation equipment and environments. This includes preparing equipment and simulation spaces, troubleshooting technical issues, preventative maintenance, maintaining accurate inventory, and optimizing simulation scenarios.
AHN STAR Center:
The AHN STAR (Simulation, Teaching, and Academic Research) Center is an internationally accredited SIM center, and rated in the top 64 Simulation Centers in Becker's Review. The STAR Center is located next to West Penn Hospital.
The highly experienced and dynamic STAR team members and course facilitators follow best practices in simulation to teach vital skills in health care. Participants can practice and perfect their procedural skills on our high/low fidelity mannequins and full/partial body task trainers. You can practice communication techniques on real people. We also offer courses related to communication, including interviewing and teamwork.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:
Responsible for the delivery of enterprise wide simulation equipment to provide Just-in-Time education via Simulation, Teaching and Academic Research (STAR) Mobile Units. In partnership with STAR staff, this person will prepare equipment/supplies for delivery to each facility and assist with all simulator/task trainer set up. Able to independently operate and troubleshoot equipment as needed. Assist with audio-visual equipment, set up and recording both at STAR and Mobile.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for preparation, delivery and cleanup of all simulators/task trainers via Mobile STAR Units and at the STAR Center. (25%)
- Independently operates and troubleshoots all simulation equipment. (20%)
- Maintains proper functioning of Mobile STAR units to include vans, ambulance and traveling education carts. (20%)
- Responsibility for ensuring that all equipment and supplies needed for courses are ordered and stocked to meet the needs of Mobile courses and courses held at the STAR Center. (15%)
- Responsible for performing safety checklists on all equipment, simulators and task trainers on a regular schedule. (10%)
- Assists with audio-visual courses, maintenance of simulation AV equipment, and film production to include set up, delivery of equipment, clean-up, and any other duties assigned. (10%)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Preferred
- Previous experience operating simulators/task trainers
- Valid driver's license and ability to drive a utility van
