Job Description : 

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Under supervision, schedules outpatient procedures and communicates schedules with patients, physicians offices and the department involved.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Schedules and completes appropriate forms, logs, etc for all outpatient exams in accordance with established procedures. Enters all demographic and insurance information into the appropriate computer programs per established procedures. (45%)
  • Schedules for a patient's multiple exams in proper sequence to prevent unnecessary testing delays. (15%)
  • Conveys accurate information to patients on special preparation for their procedure or exam. (15%)
  • Maintains effective, timely and professional communication and documentation on patient scheduling, form preparation, supporting documentation and other materials needed for th exam with physician offices, patients and imaging professionals. (10%)
  • Follows department telephone scripting procedures for contacting and interacting with patients regarding scheduling, canceling or rescheduling of appointments, authorizations, payments etc. (10%)

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, computers, office equipment and machines required.
  • Typing skills of 45 wpm required.
  • High emphasis on interpersonal, telephone and communication skills.

Preferred

  • Business or vocational school diploma with training in medical terminology coding, and hospital billing preferred.
  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • Medical secretary training preferred.
  • Registration experience in a diagnostic testing area  or hospital setting preferred.
