In recognition of our inclusive culture for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning employees, we’re proud to announce that Highmark Inc. has earned distinction as a “Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality” from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. We strive to create an inclusive culture where all employees can bring their whole selves to work, so we’re honored to have earned this distinction!
In December 2015, Highmark Inc. won the Pittsburgh Green Workplace Challenge in the large business category. An annual competition held by Sustainable Pittsburgh for regional businesses, nonprofits, municipalities and universities to track and measure improvements in energy, water, waste and transportation, Highmark Inc. finished ahead of major local Fortune 500 companies.
In 2015, Highmark Health was accredited for the second year as a CEO Cancer Gold Standard™ employer by the CEO Roundtable on Cancer. Highmark Health is one of only seven employers in Pennsylvania to earn the accreditation, which is based on workplace policies and programs to reduce cancer risk and includes sustaining a culture that values, supports and promotes a healthy lifestyle; providing the support needed when a diagnosis of cancer becomes a reality; offering benefits and programs that help to prevent cancer and detect it earlier; and providing access to high-quality treatment, including cancer clinical trials.
In 2015, Highmark Health was recognized by the American Heart Association:
– Platinum-level “Fit-Friendly Worksite” for the third year in a row. The company is being recognized for making improvements in behavior change, reducing health care costs and creating a culture of wellness, as well as offering programs/resources that focus on physical activity, nutrition and environmental changes.
– Recipient of the Worksite Innovation Award for focusing on management support via the Health Tools program. Health Tools consists of tailored and flexible wellness programs to meet departmental needs. It was created specifically for managers, as they are pivotal in establishing trust and identifying priorities for employees.
Highmark and Allegheny Health Network have been named among western Pennsylvania’s healthiest employers. This marks the sixth year that companies in the organization and many of its customers have been lauded by the competition for creating and implementing outstanding health and wellness programs that meet rigorous standards.
For five consecutive years, Highmark Inc. has been certified as a bicycle -friendly business through the League of American Bicyclists. In addition, Highmark Inc. and our integrated delivery network became major sponsors in 2015 for the public bike sharing program, Healthy Ride.
In 2014, Highmark Inc. received WELCOA’s Gold Level Well Workplace Award. The Well Workplace Awards initiative recognizes companies that have built successful results-oriented wellness programs as defined by WELCOA’s Seven Benchmarks.
Highmark Inc. was recognized by the Institute for Health and Productivity Management (IHPM) with a 2013 Value-Based Health Award, which was awarded for success with engaging employees in wellness activities, offering an integrated set of health improvement programs and visible senior leadership support. Each year, the IHPM recognizes employers who invest in the most effective health benefit plans and health improvement plans.
The Wellness Council of West Virginia awarded Highmark West Virginia Inc. a 2012 Tobacco-Free Champion Award. This annual recognition honors companies in West Virginia that have made strides in supporting tobacco-free policies in the past year.
For the second consecutive year, Highmark Health was named as one of the best places to work for people with disabilities by the Disability Equality Index. The judging for this award is based on four major categories: Culture & Leadership, Enterprise-Wide Access, Employment Practices, and Community Engagement & Support Services.
Highmark Health is recognized as outstanding partner of the year by the National Black MBA Association. The National Black MBA Association, Inc. is a non-profit organization of minority MBAs, business professionals, entrepreneurs and MBA students, founded in 1970. Their mission states that they are leaders in the creation of educational opportunities and economic growth for African Americans. In 2015 Highmark Health was awarded the ‘Corporate Citizen of the Year Award’ by the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC. Each year businesses and individuals are honored for their outstanding contributions to the Harrisburg Regional Chamber, CREDC and the surrounding communities which serves as a catalyst for promoting growth and quality of life in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry Counties.
