Job Description :
Independently performs routine and highly complex laboratory analyses on clinical specimens in one or more sections of the laboratory. Assists lab management with the daily operations of the department.
” Performs a variety of routine and complex procedures using established criteria to provide quality clinical information. Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and linearity for test methods. (40%)
” Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation. Troubleshoots problems with quality controls and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information. (20%)
” Serves as a consultant to laboratory personnel and other health care providers, as needed. Participates in continuing education to ensure growth and development of the laboratory. (10%)
” May collect and process patient specimens in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures and within the expected time frames. (10 %)
” May mentor MT/MLT, phlebotomy, and lab processor students and new hires in laboratory testing following AHN policies and procedures. (10%)
” Communicates with manager, supervisor or co-workers concerning the needs of the laboratory including supplies for efficient laboratory operations. (5%)
” Assumes supervisory duties, as assigned, in the absence of the immediate supervisor. (5%)
” Performs other duties as assigned or required.
” Bachelor’s degree in ASCP eligible program or successful completion of HEW exam. Meet ongoing education requirements for certification.
” Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) – American Society of Clinical Pathologists Board of Certifications (ASCP BOC) or Medical Technologist (MT) – American Society of Clinical Pathologists Board of Certifications (ASCP BOC) within one year of hire.
” 3 to 5 years of clinical laboratory experience.
” Prior supervisory experience.
