GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This job functions as a senior Community Paramedic providing clinical and operational leadership to junior staff, managing more complex and challenging cases, and engages in outreach activities as directed by the Operations Manager - MIH. The Community Paramedic Supervisor is a subject matter expert in community paramedicine and fulfills all duties of the Community Paramedic with minimal supervision, also providing initial and ongoing education, training, and mentoring of MIH team members. In conjunction with the Program Associate - MIH, the Community Paramedic Supervisor is responsible for coordinating scheduling for patient visits, outreach, and other program requirements. The Community Paramedic Supervisor is responsible for maintaining clinical and other physical assets to include vehicles, or ensuring that those resources are maintained by the appropriate service entities and advising the Operations Manager - MIH of deficiencies and anticipated needs. The Community Paramedic Supervisor participates in all quality initiatives and makes recommendations to the Operations Manager - MIH and MIH Medical Director for commendation, promotion, or performance improvement for all assigned MIH personnel.                                                                                                              

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs all duties of a Community Paramedic with minimal oversight. (35%)
  • Mentors probationary and current Community Paramedics, Community Paramedic students, and approved program observers. (15%)
  • Participates in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and protocols for the delivery of Community Paramedicine. (10%)
  • Provides primary instruction, continuing education, and community outreach presentations on Community Paramedicine . (10%)
  • Manages MIH vehicles and clinical equipment assigned to their area of responsibility including asset tracking, maintenance, and restocking. (10%)
  • With the Program Associate - MIH and Operations Manager - MIH, coordinates patient scheduling and program activities. (10%)
  • Participates in all MIH Quality Assurance and Continuous Quality Improvement efforts. (5%)
  • Other duties as assigned.(5%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Medicine, Public Health, Education, Health Science, Emergency Management, or similar
  • Six years of prehospital care experience and a minimum of one year of public safety supervisory experience may substitute for the degree requirement. Must be eligible for CP-C board certification at the time of hire and credentialed within six months of effective date
  • 5-7 years of experience as a prehospital care clinician (EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic)
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Paramedic (full unrestricted ALS)
  • 1-3 years of experience as a Community Paramedic
  • Emergency Medical Technician / Paramedic (EMTP)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • IBSC/BCCTPC Community Paramedic - Certified (CP-C)
  • Unrestricted PA Driver’s license

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Emergency Medicine, Public Health, Education, Health Science, Emergency Management, or similar
  • 1-3 years of experience in Social Services, mental health, or a public health agency
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor Certification
  • National Registry of EMTs - nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP)
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Instructor (ASIST-I)
  • Pennsylvania Certified Allied Addiction Practitioner (CAAP)
  • Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS)
  • Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS)

Pay Range Minimum:

$21.88

Pay Range Maximum:

$33.57

Base pay is determined by a variety of factors including a candidate’s qualifications, experience, and expected contributions, as well as internal peer equity, market, and business considerations.  The displayed salary range does not reflect any geographic differential Highmark may apply for certain locations based upon comparative markets.
