JOB SUMMARY

In our Mainframe IT organization, the Systems Programmer plays a central role in the infrastructure environment.  The programmer will install, customize, and maintain the operating system as well as the add on product required by development and system maintenance. The programmer will be presented with the latest software versions to upgrade existing systems or modify a single program to satisfy current needs.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Takes a lead role in serving on teams in clearly defining, with the customer, more complex requirements, deliverables and timeframes.  Escalate issues and make recommendations to resolve them to the appropriate audience.
  • Takes a lead role conducting more complex root cause analysis to identify and resolve complex problems impacting IT Infrastructure.
  • Takes a lead role to develop and/or deliver technical training in complex technical areas. May mentor less experienced team members in the execution of their duties.
  • Takes a lead role in completing more complex project tasks to enable the on time, within budget and scope delivery of IT Infrastructure projects. 
  • Assure compliance to required standards, procedures, guidelines and processes.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent  is required
  • 3-5 years of experience in Information Technology

Preferred

  • Experience in mainframe system programming, software development experiences and principles with a focus on one or more of the following:
    • z/OS concepts and utilities
    • VTAM
    • TCP/IP
    • RACF
    • TSO
    • Plex Configurations
    • JES/2
    • SMP/e
    • Assembler
    • REXX programming

Key Skills

  • Understands the core responsibilities of a mainframe systems programmer
  • Product installation and problem diagnostics expertise
  • Understands the concepts behind Backup and Recovery.
  • Can navigate through vender portals for maintenance updates and problem resolution.
  • Can work with customers and co workers for root cause issues.
