Job Description : 

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Responsible for directing and coordinating the technical, operational, personnel, and administrative functions of the Food Service Department.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs, coordinates, and supervises the activities of the patient tray line, diet office, cafeteria, food production and clinical nutrition areas to insure high quality patient care and customer service to all age groups. (40%)
  • Ensures that the Food Service Department complies with all state, federal, county and accrediting agencies by review of departmental policies, procedures and practices. (10%)
  • Directs, coordinates, and analyzes Performance Improvement activities within the Food & Nutrition Services Department to improve patient care processes and customer satisfaction. Develops and executes the nutrition and/or food service component of training programs for professional and ancillary staff. (10%)
  • Develops patient and retail menus and ensures the delivery of high quality, nutritious meals in a cost-effective manner. (10%)
  • Assists in the development and monitoring of departmental budgets to insure fiscal responsibility in all areas. (10%)
  • Plans and monitors nutrition support activities of the department through evaluation of staff competency. (10%)
  • Performs all steps necessary relative to hiring, evaluating, coaching, promoting, disciplining and discharging employees by following established HR policies. (10%).
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in a  food service related  field  or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5 years management experience in a hospital food service environment.
  • Knowledge of accrediting agency.
  • Food Safety Certification.

Preferred

  • Experience in academic health center food service operations.
  • Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
