Job Description : 

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Establishes, in concert with the administrative director and medical director,  testing, policy and direction for Clinical Cytogenetics, FISH and MSAFP laboratories. Responsible for final analysis and interpretation of results for all testing and issuance of accurate, timely reports. 


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interprets all available information to form a diagnosis, creates a report and contacts physicians as necessary. (30%)
  • Provides technical management of cytogenetic analysis and karyotyping on a wide variety of specimens to provide quality clinical information; resolves problems and provides direction. (20%)
  • Maintains a solid understanding of cytogenetic techniques and new developments in the field of cytogenetics. Researches and develops new analytical procedures pertinent to the department. (15%)
  • Instructs residents, fellows, and other health care professionals in the fields of responsibilities. (15%)
  • Serves as consultant to medical staff medical staff in areas of expertise. (10%)
  • Provides leadership to staff to ensure quality patient care by utilizing the performance improvement model to correct quality issues. Ensures compliance standards are met according to governmental and accreditation standards. (10%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Doctorate in a Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science field
  • Successful completion of a fellowship with an emphasis in Clinical Cytogenetics Training OR   experience in Human Medical Genetics, two years of which were in Clinical Cytogenetics.


Preferred

  • Board Certified in Clinical Cytogenetics
