JOB SUMMARY

This role is responsible for the review, evaluation and implementation of external accounting standards (i.e. US GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)) across a diverse enterprise of reporting entities representing multiple industries.  The incumbent also takes a lead role in documenting technical research, policy development review, implementation of new accounting standards, complex transactions (including business acquisitions), and other project initiatives supporting the enterprise to ensure proper application of US GAAP and SAP rules and regulations.  This role will also support the preparation, consolidation and review of audited financial statements and footnotes, insurance department filings, investor relations reports, monthly management reporting, and technical accounting position papers  This role also has extensive interaction with external auditors, and business partners across the enterprise including FP&A, tax, legal etc.  #LinkedIn

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads the research and application of new accounting standards, practices and complex transactions. 

  • Prepare technical position papers that document new standards and complex transactions in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner.

  • Lead cross-functional efforts to draft and implement new or revised accounting policies and implement processes and applications that have a direct impact on the broader enterprise and the consolidation of the Company's financial statements.

  • Manages the relationship with the external auditor on technical accounting topics as needed, and act as liaison during fieldwork.

  • Supports the preparation and review of audited financial statements, including footnotes, insurance department filings, board reports and investor relations reports.

  • Aid in the implementation of new financial reporting systems, and process improvements to ensure best practices. 

  • Mentor and develop staff members.

  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance

Preferred

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration/Management or Accounting

EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 6 years in Public Accounting or Consolidated Accounting or Financial Reporting with a large Public Regulated Company, or 7 years experience in Finance and Accounting

Preferred

  • 3 years in GAAP Accounting or STAT Accounting

  • 3 Years in Financial Reporting

  • 1 - 3 years in External Audit

  • 1 - 3 years in the Health Insurance Industry
