GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This job provides strategic and financial leadership for the hospital. Demonstrates previous hospital experience by working closely and reporting directly to the  hospital CFO and available to other members of the Executive Leadership Team ensuring that  the overall hospital strategic and financial plans are integrated and consistent. Directly responsible for the hospital Financial Analyst. Works directly with department managers daily/ monthly/ annually regarding operational efficiencies (revenue optimization, and expense management), budget, and other planning in mind, establishes, analyzes and executes financial policies and goals in support of Allegheny Health Network's (AHN) larger strategic vision and the hospital itself.  Provides direct assistance to the hospital CFO on all financial matters, related to hospital and other strategic financial planning.  Requires a collaborative approach to problems with an emphasis on relationship building with all hospital departments. Other duties assigned. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform management responsibilities to include, but are not limited to: involved in hiring and termination decisions, coaching and development, rewards and recognition, performance management and staff productivity.  Plan, organize, staff, direct and control the day-to-day operations of the department; develop and implement policies and programs as necessary; may have budgetary responsibility and authority. (20%)
  • Development, analysis and interpretation of statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization. (20%)
  • Meets with Management Team on a regular basis to evaluate and course correct financial performance against budget and run rate. Assist Managers with understanding their various reports and hold them accountable for being able explain known variance and plan effectively moving forward. (10%)
  • Coordinates and directs the preparation of the annual budgets and financial forecasts and maintains other planning and control procedures and analyzes and reports variances.  Works with department Managers to establish their budgets in accordance with overall hospital targets. Determine fiscal requirements and communicate with senior executives to examine inefficiencies and possible savings that may be achieved in meeting and exceeding department budgets. (10%)
  • Furnishes internal ad hoq or regular reports, revises and updates reports to be more useful and efficient and furnishes external reports as necessary to drive strategic decision making. Oversees month end close,  external audits and implements corrections and improvements as required.10%
  • In partnership with the Corporate Controller office, support all financial systems, including general ledger, AP, PR, fixed asset accounting and budgeting systems for designated area. Participate in Capital Budget analysis and planning, and work with purchasing to maximize supply chain efficiency, inventory levels, and lower materials costs. (10%)
  • Reviews and reports on labor variances (volume, rate, efficiency / prod vs. non-prod / premium labor usage, productivity etc.). Non-labor expense review for categorical variances (facilities, purchased services, repairs, leases, supplies, general etc.) and exceptions. Detailed month and YTD BEX reviews by CC in support of I/S review. (10%)
  • Work with all levels of leadership at certain locations to review and maintain internal controls and fiscal responsibility for costs incurred.  Review contracts and purchase requisitions to ensure purchases are necessary.  Work with Provider Supply Chain to ensure best pricing and adherence to approved vendor guidelines. (10%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 7 years of demonstrated, progressively responsible, strategic, financial leadership/management experience preferably within a large hospital/ an academic medical center

Preferred

  • Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
