JOB SUMMARY

This job is a leader in the area of cloud technology, monitoring, and engineering support necessary to drive the organization's next-generation technologies. The incumbent leads a team of engineers to adopt, expand, maintain, monitor, and optimize cloud usage across the organization through engineering support of cloud technologies and through automation builds and related technologies. The incumbent will define, design, and implement telemetry service pipelines; ensure monitoring and logging best practices are followed; tune threshold and alerting mechanisms to reduce false positives; and balance the need for log aggregation with cost implications of data egress. The incumbent is a subject matter expert in the engineering and monitoring of cloud solutions and must stay current with new cloud offerings to continue to produce expected corporate results.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define monitoring and logging standards driven by business requirements, cloud strategy and tooling strategies.  Including, but not limited to monitoring logging and control; operational analytics and reporting; asset management; configuration management; performance management; financial management; environment support; capacity management; business impact management; SLA/SLO management.
  • Works to define cloud resource procurement and performance patterns through monitoring and tracking of usage and trends to optimize cloud spend & resource efficiency.
  • Pursue automated alert and log response scripting and action to kick-off proactive remediation to resolve potential incidents.
  • Develops automation scripts and monitors repeatable events in cloud environments to alert application and service teams while adhering to defined standards/processes/procedures.
  • Works with Operations team and monitoring lead to perform research an analysis required for new cloud deployment proposals, existing cloud service modification, and other new cloud adoption to provide sound recommendations on best course of action for monitoring.
  • Establish KPIs and metrics, design reporting and dashboards to support cloud services and identify trends; Establish KPIs and operational metrics to enable event and trending dashboards.
  • Consolidate all logs and alerts within log analytics tool for aggregation and analysis.
  • Level 3 request, incident, problem and change management as it pertains to the responsibilities of the cloud monitoring team.
  • Develops complex technical training in technical areas.  Mentors team members in the execution of their duties and solutions to further cloud service utilization and optimization.

  • Bachelor's Degree

EXPERIENCE


Required

  • 5 years as a System engineer in building production infrastructure and monitoring systems
  • 3 years with automating the build, configuration, and maintenance of solutions in Cloud Services (Google Cloud Platform, Oracle, Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services) OR  enterprise monitoring and logging; managing and monitoring system health and performance; troubleshooting platform or configuration related issues.


Preferred

  • Experience with infrastructure support and using monitoring tools like Splunk, IBM Netcool NOI, VMware vRealize Operations (vROps), System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), Microsoft System Center Orchestrator (SCORCH), Dynatrace Managed APM, among others.
  • Experience producing code that is fault-tolerant, efficient, and maintainable.
  • Experience with standard IT security practices such as identity and access management, data protection, encryption, certificate and key management
  • Experience supporting and deployment of containerization and container orchestration technologies such as Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) or OpenShift.
  • Experience in providing technical leadership for a team of cloud operations and monitoring engineers.

  • Demonstrates ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to speak and write English fluently and idiomatically
  • Well-versed about traditional and cloud infrastructure
  • Strong knowledge with Microsoft Windows, Unix/Linux
  • Strong scripting experience along with interest and ability to learn other programming languages as needed
  • Ability to effectively troubleshoot, develop and lead solutions
  • Ability to be successful in a complex matrixed environment
  • Ability to understand complex business problems
  • Exposure with monitoring, configuration management, and Cloud orchestration tools, including Ansible, Kubernetes and/or Terraform
  • Working knowledge of disaster recovery, high availability and other technologies and principles that support business continuity
  • Experience with DR capabilities in cloud and/or virtualized environments
  • Knowledge of infrastructure concepts, such as OS, Virtualization or Networking
  • Ability to communicate and present to other technology groups and leaders
  • Willingness to learn new technologies
