GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This job will work closely with faculty leaders in the Cardiovascular Institute to expand the research enterprise across the breath of CV programs at AHN and seek new and innovative approaches to advance cardiovascular outcomes. The Director of CVI Outcomes Research will lead the CVI’s outcomes research center.  This key faculty member will have an appointment at the Drexel University College of Medicine and will report both to the Chair of AHN’s Cardiovascular Institute and to the System Chairman of Cardiovascular Medicine.  The Director will oversee the Outcomes Research Team and all CVI research databases, including electronic medical record data, secondary and ancillary data sets, and Highmark Health enterprise data involving healthcare utilization rates and costs related to CVI diseases and treatments.  

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform management responsibilities to include, but are not limited to: involved in hiring and termination decisions, coaching and development, rewards and recognition, performance management and staff productivity.  Plan, organize, staff, direct and control the day-to-day operations of the department; develop and implement policies and programs as necessary; may have budgetary responsibility and authority. (20%)
  • Act as a liaison between the AHN clinical informatics department and the AHN CVI Physicians.  As such, the individual will be responsible for working with AHN’s IT staff to create research and registry templates; streamline processes for EPIC data extraction and improve interfaces among research data tools such as RedCap and Lumedx, and ensure that clinical care, quality improvement, and research data are complimentary and iterative. (30%)
  • Work with CVI physicians to develop outcomes research hypotheses for the ultimate goal of publishing their clinical results in peer-reviewed journals and podium presentations at national meetings. (30%)
  • Teach research methodology classes and workshops (epidemiology, biostatistics, medical writing, etc.) while mentoring cardiovascular medicine and surgery residents and fellows. Participate in service activities to national organizations to maintain national scientific reputation, network, and expertise. (10%)
  • Submit grant proposals to industry and government sponsors, including R03, R18, R21, R01, and R0K (Career Development Awards). (10%)
  • Other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Doctorate in Epidemiology or other scientific discipline 
  • 3 years of management experience in staff and budget management

  • 3 years of proven track record of performing cardiovascular outcomes research in health economics, epidemiology, biostatistics, cost-effectiveness, or comparative effectiveness

  • 3 years in developing and executing outcomes-oriented research with at least some directly in cardiovascular research

  • Experience in the cardiovascular space

Preferred

  • Substantial publication history in the field of Health Economics and Outcomes Research
  • MD License
