Job Description : 

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Provides direct & indirect nutrition care to patients to comply with MD orders, regulatory and professional standards, departmental protocols, and patient/visitor/other customer needs. Independently supervises and coordinated the day to day functions to meet the  needs of the department. Implements policies and procedures, conforms to budgetary guidelines, monitors and maintains continuous process improvement activities. Promotes nutrition services to the community, internal and external customers and prioritizes services excellence and customer satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Applies department policies and procedures to identify patients at risk and intervene as warranted  Performs nutritional assessment, follow up and completes consults for high risk patients in a timely manner using sound clinical judgment and applying standards of care consistent with quality nutrition practice and departmental/regulatory agency goals. Confers with and acts as resource person for health care team. Extracts, analyzes, tabulates, interprets, and integrates data to arrive at recommendations.
  • Serves as a community resource person as well as in-house nutrition educator in providing counseling/instruction for disease prevention and health promotion.
  • Performs data collection/analysis to evaluate clinical nutrition effectiveness and appropriateness. Identifies and implements performance improvement to ensure quality outcomes. .Independently plans, monitors, and implements programs, policies, and procedures; assures the coordination and integration of the nutrition services within the healthcare team.
  • Document evaluation and treatments rendered, progress and change in status relative to plan of care. Complete paper or computer-based assessments forms as required. Records, reviews and updates plan of care regularly as needed.
  • Independently manage and supervise daily departmental operations and staff. Identify priorities and adjust staffing patterns accordingly. Maintains compliance with budget plans. Provide technical, educational, and training assistance to staff, students, and other departments as needed; provide in-service education to system staff and out-service education to community groups. Maintains communication with the staff. Accountable for completion of staff performance evaluations, and for ensuring staff competencies (age and skill specific) on an annual basis. Participates in the employee corrective action process. Is responsible for orienting, and training new employees. 
  • Establishes and maintains effective internal/external relationships between and among individuals, components of the organization including medical staff and community to ensure integration of services. Participates on multidisciplinary teams and committees as assigned and/or organizational needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition/Dietetics
  • Prior job-related work experience of at least 2 years in clinical nutrition
  • Registered Dietitian, Credentialed by the Commission on Dietetics Registration

Preferred

  • Management/supervisory experience
