Job Description : 

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Performs intermediate aspects of biomedical equipment services such as: preventive maintenance inspections, safety testing, calibrations, overhaul, repairs, installations, modifications, and gas monitoring.  Will assist departmental staff with listed duties relative to specialized/ high tech biomedical equipment, such as, radiology imaging equipment systems, anesthesia gas machines, and ventilators.  Position requires participation in the departmental on-call program.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates and performs preventive maintenance, safety, and performance inspections, troubleshooting, repairs and calibrations on general diagnostic equipment (ECG monitors/machines, defibrillators, ESU’s, infusion devices, telemetry units, and blood pressure monitors.  These duties are also performed on medical equipment for CE services outside the System (physicians, ambulance companies, clinics, etc.) to generate revenue for the System.
  • Operates and performs preventive maintenance safety and performance inspections, troubleshooting, repairs and calibrations on specialized and high technology biomedical equipment (anesthesia gas machines, tube system, halogenated anesthetic monitors, ventilators and computer/network systems for medical equipment).  These duties are also performed on medical equipment for CE Services outside the System (physicians, ambulance companies, clinics, etc.) to generate revenue for the System.
  • Assists Certified BMETs/Specialists with preventive maintenance, safety and performance assurance inspections, troubleshooting and repairs and calibrations on diagnostic imaging equipment, (general RF rooms, fluoroscope rooms, portable x-ray units/c-arms, tomography rooms, nuclear medicine imaging systems, diagnostic ultrasound systems, cardiac cath systems, special procedure angio systems, computed radiology and teleradiology systems).  These duties are also performed for CE Services outside the System (physicians, ambulance companies, clinics, etc.)  to generate revenue for the System.
  • Performs delegated responsibilities and actions of department resources, such as parts ordering and inventory control, administer service/PM contracts, equipment warranties, vendor demand service, second sourcing of parts/supplies, and evaluate/perform emergency call back/overtime assignments.  These duties are also performed on medical equipment for CE Services outside the System (physicians, ambulance companies, clinics, etc.) to generate revenue for the System.
  • Performs general electronic and electrical equipment PM inspections and repairs to reduce equipment failures, provide for safe and reliable equipment operations, reduce costs, and maintain detailed/accurate records.
  • Integrates performance improvement principles into all aspects of job responsibilities.  Integrates customer service excellence principles into all aspects of job responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

  • A.S. Engineering Biomedical Equipment Tech or A.S. Engineering Electronics/Electrical
  • A.S. Engineering Biomedical Equipment Tech plus minimum 2 years as a BET (imaging experience is highly desirable) or A.S. Engineering Electronics/Electrical plus minimum 3 years as a BET is required (imaging experience is highly desirable)

Preferred

  • CBET (Certified Biomedical Engineering Technician) is preferred.
