GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The vision of the Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship Program is to provide a transition experience for the APP from academia to clinical application. The APP Fellow will be an integral part of the ICU team in the role of a PGY 2. Duties will include: provide appropriate patient care including obtaining and documenting patient history and physical assessment; performing, documenting and conveying to the ICU team the physical exam; ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests; communicating with the patient, family and other members of the health care team; participate in departmental research and quality improvement projects and assists in educational processes within the department.                          

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides appropriate patient care to include recording patient medical history and physical assessment, developing therapeutic care plan, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, discharge planning and providing accurate medical record documentation. (45%)
  • Participates, develops, and implements performance and/or quality improvement initiatives. Develops educational presentations for other members of the healthcare team. (15%)
  • Communicates and coordinates patient care with patient, family, community health services and interdisciplinary team. Involves attending physician regarding plan of care and involves physician in clinical decision-making of any issues that are outside the APP knowledge-base or scope of practice. (15%)
  • Performs advanced diagnostic and/or therapeutic interventions that include: tracheal intubation, placement of central venous catheters, placement of central or peripheral arterial catheters, placement of chest tubes and pigtail catheters, perform bronchoscopies and insertion of nasal or oral enteric catheters. (25%)
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree from Physician Assistant program
  • Physician Assistant license
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred

  • 1-3 years experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • 1-3 years experience with electronic medical records
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification
