GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This job will provide clinical and research leadership, ensuring the clinical quality, ethical conduct, and regulatory adherence to applicable standards of research, across the Allegheny Health Network.  Working in collaboration with the Director, Translational Research, AHN Research Institute, AHN Institute Chairs, Academic Officers, Institute Vice President, AHN Chief Medical Officer, and other key stakeholders both internal and external will drive research best-practices and AHN’s research mission cross-functionally.  


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the primary clinical leader of the AHN Research Institute, including but not limited to physician-to-physician consulting on clinical research best practice, adherence to protocols and standard operating procedures, and ethical/regulatory guidance. (20%)

  • Communicate effectively with external research stakeholders including academia, government granting bodies, and industry sponsors on AHN clinical research capabilities, long-term vision and clinical research objectives. (10%)

  • Standardize, review, and approve standard operating procedures applicable to clinical research conduct across AHN Institutes. (10%)

  • Partner with clinical leadership across AHN to assist with protocol and feasibility design, review, implementation, monitoring, development, and deployment applying clinical and research subject matter expertise. (10%)

  • Highlight AHN Research Institute clinical research milestones and objective to key stakeholders both internally and externally. (10%)

  • Serve as a resource and clinical point of contact related to clinical research audit and monitoring including escalated audit and corrective action response, data fidelity, and subject clinical care. (10%)

  • Mentor junior clinical researchers across AHN Institutes. (10%)

  • Advise hospital and ambulatory leadership across AHN to ensure the seamless coordination of research subjects across sites of service. (10%)

  • As-needed: facilitate scientific review; resource allocation across clinical research portfolios and teams; convene physician-investigator oversight committees and data safety monitoring . (10%)

  • Other related duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Doctorate degree (MD / DO)

  • 10 years in Research and Service as a principal Investigator on multi-site studies

  • 5 years in Sponsor engagement

  • Mentorship of junior investigators

  • Subject and clinical research study management

  • Human Subject Training

  • Good Clinical Practice

  • Informed Consent Training 

Preferred

  • 7 years of clinical trials regulatory oversight; IRB, Sponsor reporting
  • 5 years in clinical trials financial oversight

  • 3 years in C-Suite reporting

  • Authorship: Has served as first or last author on peer reviewed publications highlighting research activity
