Job Description : 

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Supervises the day to day operational activities and functions within the Central Processing Department; directly supervises the daily activities of technical employees and directs their efforts to produce high quality finished sterile and clean products; coordinates activities daily with Perioperative Services and all other customers of the Central Processing Department; assists in staff related functions such as scheduling, assigning, payroll, and employee recruitment, counseling, education and performance evaluation.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs day to day activities and personnel within assigned scope of responsibility according to prescribed standards and procedures to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. (50%)
  • Ensures the proper operation of all decontamination and sterilization equipment. (10%)
  • Manages and controls all Central Processing supplies, instruments, and equipment to ensure product availability, inventory control, appropriate asset management and expense accuracy and control. (20%)
  • Assists in the performance of staff management and educational activities. Supervises staff, evaluates work, and recommends and implements approved disciplinary action. (20%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in a Central Processing Department.

Preferred

  • Associate’s Degree or completion of a formal Central Processing Technician training program
  • CRCST or Surgical Technician certification.
  • Additional surgical or nursing direct patient care experience.
