GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Director Tissue Typing ensures that the histocompatibility laboratory provides high quality and comprehensive histocompatibility and immunogenic testing. The Director is responsible for the overall operation and administration of the laboratory, including the employment of personnel who are competent to perform test procedures, record and report test results promptly, accurately and proficiently, and assure compliance with applicable regulations. The Director is also responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures that the laboratory facilities are adequate and safe from physical, chemical, and biological hazards. (20%)
  • Provides consultation to transplant team on test results. (15%)
  • Provides onsite, telephone, or electronic consultation, as needed. (15%)
  • Ensures that an approved procedure manual is available to all technical personnel. (10%)
  • Ensures that test systems provide quality results. (10%)
  • Ensures that the laboratory has quality control and quality assurance programs. (10%)
  • Follows laboratory established policies, documents all quality control activities, including instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed. (10%)
  • Ensures that the test methodologies selected have the capability of providing the quality of results required for patient care. (10%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • PhD in science, and must meet the qualifications of a director of high complexity testing according to Federal CLIA requirements defined in 42CFR-493.1441
  • Certification by the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics
  • 2 years training or experience in histocompatibility testing in an OPTN approved training program or 3 years of experience under an OPTN histocompatibility laboratory director
