GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This job is responsible for 24/7 leadership for AHN Prehospital Care Operations including: Life Flight, Critical Care Transport, AHN EMS and the associated dispatch centers along with other network modes of prehospital emergency and non-emergency interfacility patient treatment and transport.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform management responsibilities to include, but are not limited to: involved in hiring and termination decisions, coaching and development, rewards and recognition, performance management and staff productivity.  Plan, organize, staff, direct and control the day-to-day operations of the department; develop and implement policies and programs as necessary; may have budgetary responsibility and authority. (20%)
  • Effectively manages human resources and supervises staff; responsible for interviewing and hiring, promotions, disciplining, and recommending termination; oversees the development and retention of department personnel; provides feedback and conducts staff performance evaluations; determines employee development plans, training, educational, and equipment needs and ensures overall staff competencies. Participates in the collective bargaining process and maintains overall budget responsibility for LifeFlight, Critical Care, AHN EMS and medical transportation. (20%)
  • Serves as primary point of contact with the flight operations contracted vendor for air medical operational excellence regarding safe flight operations, maintenance and aircraft coordination. (20%)
  • Manages and coordinates all prehospital critical care network air and ground response and transportation services and works closely with the system EMS Medical Director to assure consistent policies, procedures, and protocols for quality and successful patient care outcomes. Assures program adherence to all applicable regulatory bodies and organizational legal and compliance requirements across the team including program specific accreditation and licensing standards for the PA Bureau of EMS, PA Department of Health, CAMTS, CAAS, FAA, OIG, CMS, FCC, TJC, PA DOT and other respective agencies. (20%)
  • Coordinates with AHN Prehospital Care Services and the Medical Director(s) in establishing realistic but challenging expectations, measurable objectives and goals by designing and managing the structure and processes necessary for efficient operations, achievement of clinical performance and projected growth. Develops and recommends technological enhancements and/or replacements to support medical transportation operations.(10%)
  • Develops, implements, and monitors operational and capital budgets related to the operations and identified strategic initiatives. Coordinates with AHN leadership to develop, negotiate, and monitor contracts associated with the service. (10%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Bachelors degree in graduate of an accredited undergraduate program or relevant experience and/or education as determined by the company in lieu of bachelor's degree.   
  • ​5 years of progressive management experience in medical transportation or related hospital operations
  • Must have held leadership positions (reflecting increasing levels of responsibility) in roles where building and leveraging key relationships was a responsibility as well as driving a strategic initiative.
  • Paramedic License (PA) - State of Pennsylvania Bureau of Emergency Medical Services– OR – Pre-hospital Registered Nurse (PHRN) License - Pennsylvania Department of Health
  • Driver's License - PA - Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) - Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association - American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association - American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association - American Heart Association
  • Prehospital trauma Life Support (PHTLS) - National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) OR - ITLS Provider - International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)

Preferred

  • Masters degree in Healthcare or Business-related field
  • Certified Medical Transport Executive (CMTE) certification via the Medical Transport Leadership Institute

SKILLS:

  • Strong understanding of EMS structure/system operations in both ground and air environments, EMS communications, computer aided dispatch modules, and personnel-staff scheduling. Experience in EMS educational programs and excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills required. Background knowledge in government structures and EMS rules and regulations. Experience in field care as it relates to BLS, ALS and critical care medicine.
  • Extensive knowledge in: management and budget, specialized software and hardware, aviation terminology, third party payers, and Health Care Facility regulations relating to EMS payment plans and various modes of EMS and patient transportation services.
  • Extensive knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and bargaining process.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of prehospital transport medicine and regulatory requirements.
  • Must have a proven track record of success in creating and executing operational and clinical growth strategies.
  • Participative management style and an ability to work in a matrix environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people, including but not limited to Corporate/Division leadership, hospital leadership, clinical staff, internal and external customers.
  • Must be independent, driven, self-motivated, and passionate with an exceptional work ethic, executive presence, integrity and presentation skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated leadership competency in air and ground critical care and prehospital medical transportation, communication center excellence, customer needs and expectations, human resource management, financial outcomes, strategic vision and execution, marketing initiatives, and continuous improvement skills.
  • Proficient in the use of computer aided dispatching and various MS products.
  • Ability to work well under pressure on concurrent, multidisciplinary projects.
  • Solid level of strategic acumen, with strong analytical skills and ability to solve problems in a timely basis.
  • Demonstrated competency in business finance, which may include budgeting and projections.
  • Proven ability to manage, train and develop a team.
  • Strong administrative, management and personnel organizational skills.
