JOB SUMMARY
This job will partner closely with law department executive leadership to enhance operations. The incumbent will be accountable for enabling the department to move in a more agile manner, including development of consistent practices, development of dashboards and metrics, evaluation and implementation of software and other innovative practices, etc. Enhancing legal operations will enable the department to provide client service in a more efficient and cost effective manner.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform management responsibilities to include, but are not limited to: involved in hiring and termination decisions, coaching and development, rewards and recognition, performance management and staff productivity. Plan, organize, staff, direct and control the day-to-day operations of the department; develop and implement policies and programs as necessary; may have budgetary responsibility and authority.
Collaborate with General Counsel and committee of legal professionals to evaluate, recommend and implement software solutions, both current and additional as needed. Use technology to make the Legal Department more agile through easily accessible tools, guidelines, messaging and training that will promote quick consultation with colleagues. Lead legal’s participation in ThinkUp initiatives, lead readiness and adoption efforts and ensure return on investment.
- Manage and track the budgeting process for submission. Develop metrics and dashboards for review with executive leadership.
- Develop board presentations in partnership with executive leadership, champion internal communications including organizing departmental retreats, meetings, developing agendas, communication schedules, etc.
- Maintain a departmental census of individual responsibilities and areas of expertise. Monitor usage and review billing; provide recommendations on consolidation and realignment of outside legal resources.
- Provide recommendations with respect to staffing/hiring decisions. Explore alternative staffing models.
- Determine training plans and create and manage an effective on-boarding program for Legal.
- Partner with HR and leadership to develop cross-training, developmental opportunities and career paths for Legal personnel.
- Develop and promote project management expertise and practices within the department.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, or relevant experience and/or education as determined by the company in lieu of bachelor's degree.
Preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in Law or related field
